Fab Faux

All you need is love! To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Beatles’ seminal recordings Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and Magical Mystery Tour, Fab Faux will perform these albums in their entirety, along with other fan favorites. Seniors and Wellness: Health Tips from the HealthPROs

September 26, 2017 • 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Because we know that active seniors are more content, physical therapist Katrina Francis will provide a health and wellness smorgasbord, offering tips and techniques on a broad range of topics. Learn how to improve your core strength, boost your brain function with snacks, and incorporate safe driving practices into your travels. Katrina will also offer an overview on the benefits of meditation, complete with a demonstration of seated yoga you can do at home.

Katrina Francis is a physical therapist who holds a doctorate of physical therapy. She serves as the director for HealthPRO’s outpatient rehabilitation program, through which physical therapy is offered on site for Glenmeadow residents.

Rock ’n’ Talk: Young@Heart Film and Q&A with Chorus Members

October 11, 2017 • 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Join us as we view the award-winning Walker George documentary Young@Heart, featuring the enchanting Young@Heart Chorus. In the film, these octogenarians belt out tunes from Bruce Springsteen’s “Dancin‘ in the Dark” to David Bowie’s “Golden Years.” After the screening, take part in a question-and-answer session with Young@Heart singers and learn about their backgrounds and musical inspiration.

Directed by Bob Cilman, the current performers in Young@Heart® range in age from 73 to 89. There are some with prior professional theater or music experience, others who have performed extensively on the amateur level, and some who never stepped onto a stage before turning 80.

Groovin’ with the Oldies: Open Rehearsal of Young@Heart Chorus

A behind-the-scenes chance to watch the Young@Heart chorus learn and rehearse new songs, accompanied by piano. This year marks the 35th anniversary of the chorus. Its home base is in Western Massachusetts, and the group has been touring across the globe for over 20 years. The current singers keep the spirit of the early corps alive and continue to push and challenge the chorus into glorious new directions.

Young@Heart Concert

Young@Heart’s fifth Annual Mash-Up Concert presents the chorus’s singers performing with the nationally renowned Brooklyn Youth Chorus in a wildly entertaining blending of talent and ages. Come celebrate with us as the chorus turns 35 years old, with new music ranging from Leonard Cohen to the Psychedelic Furs; Los Lobos; Radiohead; Tears for Fears; Emerson, Lake and Palmer; and much more. The afternoon ends with a three-course dining experience at the Delaney House.

Through the Binoculars: Birds, Wildlife, and Climate Change

December 8, 2017 • 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Patti Steinman of the Massachusetts Audubon Society will lead a talk on New England birds and wildlife and share her observations on how climate change is affecting those species. The Audubon Society oversees 79 birding areas in the state, representing populations from orioles to whip-poor-wills. Patti will also talk about changes in the moose, black bear, bald eagle, and peregrine falcon populations.

Patti Steinman has been part of the Mass Audubon family for almost 30 years. She has a master’s degree in science from Antioch New England Graduate School. She received the 2011 Non-formal Environmental Educator of the Year award.

Silk Road Ensemble

Inspired by the exchange of ideas and traditions along the Silk Road, cellist Yo-Yo Ma established the Silkroad project in 1998. The Silk Road Ensemble, a Grammy-nominated collective of performers from Asia, Europe, and the Americas, has been at the core of Silkroad’s work to foster cultural collaboration around the world. The evening begins with a three-course fine dining experience at the University Club. Note: Yo-Yo Ma will not be performing with the ensemble.
