Get Away, with Glenmeadow Getaways

September 2, 2016

Diane and Jeff Shinners of West Springfield take regular annual trips to Florida and the Caribbean, but until this summer, they had yet to see much of the United States and were yearning to explore it. We offered up their ticket west, where they visited national parks and lodges.

Diane learned of our travel program through her various connections to us. Her aunt was a resident here; her sister Susan Bruce holds a Lifestyle Pass; and Diane herself had attended some of our Glenmeadow Learning programs and so was on our mailing list.

She says when she and Jeff saw a communication about our July trip to America’s picturesque national parks and lodges of the Old West, the couple signed up right away. “It was something we always thought we’d love to do,” Diane says.

Stops on the trip included the Old Faithful geyser in Yellowstone National Park, Mount Rushmore, South Dakota’s Spearfish Canyon and the 1,078-mile long Snake River. “There were so many great aspects,” Diane says. “Just the scenery itself was spectacular, and so different from anything you see in the Northeast.”

Diane also enjoyed the company of fellow travelers and the knowledgeable and friendly tour guides. She said many of the accommodations also impressed her. “While we were bunking near Jackson Hole, all the travelers had their own cabins,” Diane says. “You wouldn’t believe the interior. We opened the door, and it was just five-star quality.”

Glenmeadow Getaways began with a Travel Expo in May 2014 that generated much interest in day-long and more extensive ventures. We officially launched the popular program in March with a trip to the Berkshires, and we have since offered 10 day trips—ranging from the opera to the ballet to a cooking class—with five more planned for this fall. And we have taken travelers to Peru and the National Parks.

We take pride in providing the level of service and quality that you have come to expect from us, and we routinely partner with top-notch partners and tour guides such as the Springfield Museums and Springfield Jewish Community Center, locally, and Andean Discovery and Orbridge for our longer trips.

Our 10-day trip to Peru in April is what caught the eye of Lynn Papale, who traveled with us along with her husband, John, and 26-year-old son Michael to explore Peru’s ancient civilizations. “We were pleasantly surprised as the meals were incredible,” says Lynn, a frequent traveler. “As amazing as the meals and accommodations were, Machu Picchu was even more amazing.”

Lynn remembers the comfort of traveling on the tour bus with guide Celinda Humilde, a native Peruvian who opened the doors for travelers to have memorable, traditional Peruvian experiences through her connections and extensive understanding of the country.

We are sure there is an upcoming Glenmeadow Getaways trip that could catch your attention. We have two extended trips planned for 2017 as well as six day trips coming up this fall and winter. Learn more about our longer getaways online and at info sessions to be held on Oct. 13.
