The Family Table: Building Meaningful Relationships

Many older adults live on their own and miss the experience of meeting others or building longtime relationships through fellowship. Enjoy an appetizer, main course, and dessert on us while you make new connections in an intimate dining setting, complete with engaging conversation on what community means to you. Your tablemates will include residents and team members members, and they will prompt lively discussion on topics of interest to you. Make reservations early as these fine-dining events are limited to five participants.
Sex and Older Adults: Intimacy, with a Dash of Humor

Jane Fleishman, an expert on the sexual well-being of older adults, will present research, trends, tips, and skills, addressing both individuals with partners as well as singles, for whom Jane has a message on life’s transitions. Participants may take part in conversations about sexual fluidity and learn how to apply the knowledge in their own lives. Jane knows people may arrive feeling a bit awkward; she says she’ll get them laughing and will make things fun as well as interesting. Jane is a certified sexuality educator and holds a doctoral degree from the Center for Human Sexuality Studies at Widener University in Pennsylvania. She has written extensively about sex and older adults and has a podcast on the topic.
Dementia and Brain Health: Risk Factors, Interventions, Research
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 16
This comprehensive presentation by Kelsey Gosselin of the Alzheimer’s Association will cover topics from the pathology and detection/diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias to updates on clinical trials, and thoughts on prevention. Kelsey will also speak about the differences between various types of dementia and provide the latest research. The session will include time for questions from the audience. Kelsey is the manager of medical and scientific research engagement for the Alzheimer’s Association Massachusetts/New Hampshire chapter.
Test of Wits: A Trivia Challenge for Older Adults

Because we know that stimulating the brain is as important for older adults as keeping physically fit, we bring you a trivia challenge in a collegiate setting at Western New England University. Political consultant Tony Cignoli will serve as our emcee, quizzing you in topic areas including history, arts and culture, and wellness. Study up! We’ll have prizes! Tony, a Springfield native, is the president of the A. L. Cignoli Company. He has broad-scope knowledge on politics, government, international affairs, and local culture.
