Visit someplace new with us this year.

Through our Glenmeadow Getaways program, we can take you on four day trips in 2016 or across the country for our more elaborate journey to America’s National Parks of the Old West. Plan way ahead, and consider our June 2017 trip to Alaska.

Day trips

Our Glenmeadow Getaways day trips are scheduled for:

Tuesday, June 7

White Flower Farm in Litchfield, Connecticut
Offered in partnership with the Springfield Jewish Community Center

For avid gardeners and beginners alike, White Flower Farm is in a class by itself. Join us as we visit this well-known mail-order nursery, just three miles from the Litchfield Green. We’ll tour some of the five acres of display gardens with a knowledgeable team members member who will provide design tips and so much more. Fee: $75

Thursday, July 28

Jewels: New York City Ballet, Saratoga Springs, New York
Offered in partnership with the Springfield Jewish Community Center

Jewels, a ballet in three parts choreographed by George Balanchine, is performed in Saratoga by the New York City Ballet. Three jewels define the movements and are reflected in the dancers’ costumes. Each act is quite distinct in style and has music by a different composer: Fauré for emeralds, Stravinsky for rubies, Tchaikovsky for diamonds. Fee: $115.

Tuesday, August 9

Puccini’s La Bohème, Cooperstown, New York
Offered in partnership with the Springfield Museums

Enjoy a new production of Puccini’s La bohème in central New York’s opera and musical theater venue. A new Belle Époque production follows a tightly knit group of young artists through high-spirited hijinks, tender romance, and heartbreaking loss. Presented in Italian with projected English text. Includes an on-route lecture by Guy McLain, director of the Wood History Museum, on the music and artistry of this opera. Fee: $220.

Thursday, October 27

Chasing Rainbows: The Road to Oz, East Haddam, Connecticut
Offered in partnership with the Springfield Jewish Community Center

An awkward girl with a golden voice blossoms into Judy Garland in this inspirational new musical about the bumpy road to “Oz.” Garland’s complicated childhood comes alive with heartbreak, hope, and the music that made her famous, including “You Made Me Love You” and “Over the Rainbow.” Book by Marc Acito, conceived by Tina Marie Casamento, music adapted by David Libby. Fee: $125.

Our trips are well-planned and inclusive. Registration is limited and ongoing. For more information on cost inclusion and travel itineraries, or to register, contact Torrie Dearborn at 413-567-5547 or tdearborn@glenmeadow.org.

National Parks and Lodges of the Old West

At this time, it is also “last call” to register for our cross-country trip to the National Parks and Lodges of the Old West, which will be offered from July 13-22. This adventure celebrates the American West’s magnificent National Parks, tracing legends and storied monuments along the way.

From Old Faithful to Mount Rushmore and from Spearfish Canyon to the Snake River, we will see the best of the Old West and traverse its beautiful vistas in style and comfort. Wonderfully atmospheric hotels and lodges are a highlight of this program, including landmark lodging—national treasures themselves—within the parks.

You will see beautiful scenery, abundant wildlife, hike, hear stories, and create memories to last a lifetime.

The cost for the trip is $3,995 per adult, for double occupancy; $4,995 for single occupancy. To opt in for the three-day extension to Jackson Hole, add $745 for double occupancy and $995 for single occupancy. Learn more, or call 800-633-6313.

Southeast Alaska

Taking you a bit further afield is our Alaska trip, scheduled for June 23-30. See the spray of whales only yards away and venture into secluded inlets as you get up close to nature, whether from the decks of the Admiralty Dream, or aboard its skiffs and kayaks.

Accompanied by a naturalist Orbridge Expedition Leader, you will learn surprising details about animal behavior, glacier activity, and the wealth of natural spectacles along these protected waters. You will also get an education in Alaska’s culture and living history from a Native Huna Tlingit Cultural Heritage Guide at Glacier Bay National Park.

The trip also includes visits to a salmon hatchery, the Alaska Raptor Center, and Sitka National Historical Park, and a guided tour of the Norwegian fishing community of Petersburg.

Specific trip details and pricing are being finalized. Look for an update soon.
