Forging Relationships, One Class at a Time

Luba Kruglikovskaya, Lifestyle Pass Member

The challenge: Luba Kruglikovskaya immigrated to America from Ukraine with her husband in 1998 and didn’t speak a word of English. Her husband has since passed away, and, while Luba has learned some language, she tended to feel isolated. Living in Longmeadow, she had few opportunities to socialize with other older adults.

Our assist: Luba became a Lifestyle Pass member last year. Her daughter, Yelena Litvinov, says her mother now visits Glenmeadow several times a week to take a fitness class or swim in the pool. Last year in December, Luba was invited to our holiday party, and, while here, she connected with our resident Adele Citron, who provided Luba’s weekly English lessons when Luba first arrived in this country.

The result: Convenience, a sense of community, and the chance to boost Luba’s physical fitness. “My mother has a lot of problems with mobility, so using the swimming pool and taking fitness classes give her good exercise,” Yelena says. “She needs activities to keep her healthy. Any kind of social life is good for her. I am grateful there is a place like Glenmeadow for her to go. She’s building relationships.”
