As director of the Glenmeadow at Home program, Emily spends her days connecting area residents who live independently to everything from personal care assistance to housekeeping services. She arranges rides and meal deliveries and offers referrals and connections to area handymen for home repairs.
Emily goes about her work with heart, and she is always looking to improve the quality and scope of services she can offer. Toward this end, she recently invested many hours in a certification process with the Aging Life Care Association, formerly the National Association of Professional Geriatric Care Managers.
Now a certified care manager, Emily has NACCM authorization to perform a full range of care management tasks. To gain these qualifications, Emily sat for a 200-question exam offered by the National Academy of Certified Care Managers in October.
Representing Glenmeadow during this rigorous test, Emily successfully demonstrated her knowledge of aging issues, disabilities issues, chronic disease management, financing options, legal and ethical concerns, special needs, services offered within the community and more. She is proud to have well demonstrated her skills in her trade and looks forward to putting them to work for area residents.
“This certification means quite a bit to me in the sense that, while I was doing similar work before, sitting for the test and becoming certified solidified my confidence,” Emily says. “My hope for becoming certified is that my prospective clients will be able to trust in the knowledge I have, along with the credentials behind my name, and they’ll feel even more comfortable signing up for services with Glenmeadow at Home.”
Glenmeadow at Home was developed to meet the needs of older residents who want to continue to live in their own homes but need help connecting to services and support. We offer personal care, escorts and/or transportation to medical appointments, handyman and housekeeping services, meal delivery, care management, bill paying and bank reconciliation, errands and grocery shopping and so much more.
Emily has been involved with the program since 2006, although she took a hiatus in order to attend graduate school, returning to us as a part-time care manager after her studies were completed. She wanted to be sure to stay connected to Glenmeadow.
“I knew that Glenmeadow was a special place and wanted to stay affiliated with them,” Emily says.
When the program director position became available with Glenmeadow at home in August 2014, Emily was eager to become more involved in our organization as she cherishes the people she works with and the standards of care they uphold.
“Glenmeadow at Home employs some of the most amazing people I’ve ever worked with and has the privilege to work with incredible seniors in greater Springfield,” she says. “While I am technically the administrator of Glenmeadow at Home, I still love the opportunity to work directly with our clients.”
Emily encourages community members to reach out to her and other Glenmeadow employees for help of any kind or a referral.
“Glenmeadow is a not-for-profit and is happy to help in any way possible,” Emily says. “We are not looking to ‘sell’ to the prospective client, but to offer assistance even if it is something that we can’t do, which is rare.” Glenmeadow provides trustworthy and professional references for the ultimate benefit of the client.
