After her husband and daughter passed away, Ann moved to Glenmeadow, where she became active in a yoga class and met Beth, who could attend as a Lifestyle Pass member.
The Challenge
Ann Togneri, Resident, Independent Living; and Beth Young, Lifestyle Pass member
As a professional, Beth socialized with her colleagues, but after her retirement, she found she had little in the way of a support network. As a caregiver for her husband and daughter for many years, Ann also did not cultivate relationships outside her home. The two longed for companionship.
How We Helped
After her husband and daughter passed away, Ann moved to Glenmeadow, where she became active in a yoga class and met Beth, who could attend as a Lifestyle Pass member. The two formed a fast friendship and collaborated on a project to revive the botanical life at Glenmeadow, supported by our President and CEO Anne Thomas. “Meeting Ann was really like a gift from heaven,” Beth says. “We were both in need of female friendship and a new social outlet. We completely hit it off.”
The Result
Ann and Beth travel together and go on daytrips near and far. They don’t need to go anywhere to have a good time, though. The two share plenty of laughs talking about the simple things in life, like their families, the Garden Club, current events and politics, and even Beth’s cat, Walter. “Ann has become one of my most treasured friends,” Beth says.
