We offered Stanley Melvin a way to get his COVID vaccination while he was at physical rehab and reunite with his wife Jean.
The Challenge
Stanley Melvin is a Glenmeadow at Home client with his wife, Jean, who both receive services from a caregiver at The Villas at Glenmeadow. However, during our COVID-19 vaccination clinic, Stanley was temporarily staying at a physical rehabilitation facility—yet he still very much wanted to be vaccinated.
How We Helped
Some of the Glenmeadow team members got together to figure out how to get Stanley from the rehab facility to Glenmeadow and administer his vaccine. So, on vaccination day, the Glenmeadow van picked up Jean at the couple’s villa, and then gathered Stanley at rehab and brought them to Glenmeadow for vaccinations.
The occasion enabled a brief reunion between husband and wife: Jean and Stanley got to see one another for the first time in three weeks. In fact, the idea to have Jean ride in the van—so she could spend some more time with him—came from their Glenmeadow caregiver, Lydia.
The Result
Jean appreciated the opportunity to get together with Stanley. “I’m grateful for what Glenmeadow did,” she said. “It had been more than three weeks since I had seen him. We talked on the phone, but it wasn’t the same. I wrote him a letter every day.”
Glenmeadow President and CEO, Anne Thomas, pointed out that even though Stanley wasn’t at home during the vaccinations, he is still very much a part of the Glenmeadow community and couldn’t miss his vaccination. “We simply had to make sure that he was a part of this clinic,” she said. “We are known for our exceptional services, and this is one of the many examples of how we try to provide for the people we serve.”
